The political developments on the international scale of recent times seem to have put “Religion” back on the scientific and political agenda. Debates about the Clash of Civilizations, the so called Fundamentalism and Terrorism, or the ambivalence of religious violence are dominating political and media discourses to very different degrees. In this process, “Religion” is considered as threat for the political system on the one hand. On the other hand it is reduced to a highly abstract variable for the analysis of political trends.
